Default HIGH PRICED NZ HOUSES

Here’s an article you need to read on the NZ high housing costs.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominionpost/...sh-generation/

Personally it hits the nail on the head and why progress is slow moving here. Basically those that have gained very nicely by the` high houses price hike in the early 2000s will defend their status.

The article refers to “drip feeding” available land to maintain high housing costs.

The article points to the selfish outlook of some and the handbrake attitude to moving forward that is rampant in NZ.

The migration to Australia chart at the bottom of the article is a red flag to me.

The situation has changed considerably since that article and likely to contiue to change.

Sales are down and prices are dropping.

The banks have just increased mortage rates.

Loan applications have dropped dramatically so it will be interesting to see what "carrots" they can come up with to entice customers.

Better salaries and lifestyle I believe are the main attractions

Gee,

New Zealand is very quick to change

Bernard Hickey in Show Me The Money | 12:32 pm 27 February 2008

Considerable changes in a week

Let's hope mortgage rates increase is not one you believe will fix the problem

Yes it will be VERY interesting to see what carrots they come up with

Let’s just hope the carrots are real and not out of reach

The land of milk and honey? Same sh*t, different accent!

As Prime Minister Kevin Rudd marked his first 100 days in power yesterday, a stark new picture emerged of a lucky country turning sour for hundreds of thousands of families.

Rudd yesterday doubled a national rental affordability scheme to include 100,000 new low-cost rental properties, offering tax incentives to developers in return for properties rented at 20 per cent below the market rate.

State and territory governments have agreed to throw in A$2000 a home through such measures as cut-price land or cheaper stamp duty. The Government will also provide A$30 million to streamline and develop online building approvals to cut costs.
The same sh!t ? erm......I think not.

Many NZers are leaving NZ to work in OZ, obviously they are taking Aussie jobs otherwise it would be filled by Australians. Looking at the emmigration stats there seems a lot of Kiwis finding work in Australia.
