Hi there!
Hi there.. great to find this site. Passed on to me at a British expats meet this week. Been in NZ for coming up two years.. teaching in Auckland. Northern lass, originally Cumbria, more recently York. Seem to have been through all the usual experiences people go through when they first come out.. wish I'd known about the site then! Looks like a great support network!

welcome to the forum, karma for your newness!
Most of the time, yes it is a good site. We try to offer support and realistic views of life here in New Zealand.
Usually someone knows the answer to the questions asked

Re: Hi there!
Thanks for your welcome.. seem to have had more contact with Brits this week than I've had the whole time I've been here. Yes I miss York.. still have a house there. Between a rock and a hard place.. haven't fully committed to being here long term, but enjoying the experience, and that's what it's all about. Just committed to some study though so I guess that's me here for at least another 18 months. Still a bit of a hankering to spend some time in somewhere like Malaysia.. but we'll see! Read some of your blog.. had thought about it myself.. great way of keeping in touch.
We came here from York too, I'm Scottish, my husband isn't..

Did you know it is still legal to shoot a Scot with a bow and arrow if they are found withing the walls of York
Thank-you for the positive feedback on the blog: I enjoy writing it and hope others enjoy reading it.

Re: Hi there!
My house is on the outskirts of South Bank.. but depending on who I'm talking to, I might say I live near the racecourse!! Sounds a bit more upmarket. I didn't know that about shooting the Scottish, not that I knew many to shoot! You learn something new... ! Have a great weekend.
And have a great weekend yourself now!

Re: Hi there!
Yes I know Cark 'n Cartmel. Lovely area. I'm from good old Barrow.. the place that everyone seems to have been to ONCE! Great people though.
Passed through Edinburgh at Christmas.. another favourite, unfortunately I was travelling so couldn't stop. Maybe next time, as I have friends in Scotland. Will this be your first trip to NZ? Are you coming to stay?
