Hi everyone, moving to Wellington with 2 dogs
Hi,
I'm moving to Wellington area in about January I guess. Got a job working at the Environment Ministry in the centre of town, just waiting for the visa confirmation so dates will depend on that.
Has anybody any experience of trying to rent with two dogs (I've got rescue Greyhounds)? I've been looking on the web but without much luck, I am willing to be flexible on location/ bond etc.
Any advice or any agents who specialise? any advice appreciated. Regards
Chris

Can't really help you specifically but people i know renting with dogs have generally found that it is easier to meet the landlord and then tell them you have a dog. Oh, they also found that it was easier renting through a private landlord rather than an agency so they could play this tactic!!!!
I always thought it would be a bit of a pain to possibly view houses and then be told you can't have it because of the dog but they swear by the technique.
Also, tell the landlord that you will get the carpets cleaned (or whatever) when you leave.

We rented with two cats with little problem. We did state we would get the carpets cleaned. Sometimes you have to put extra bond money down .

have no real experience of renting with animals, but i have been told it will depend on the renters/management company. But apparently money does talk and i you were to double the bond, you could be on a winner. I do know people who have done this successfully. Best thing would be to contact various management companies and tell them your predicament and see what they can do for you.

Phil met the landlords and he paid a couple of weeks extra bond. For some reason she thought the cats would scratch everything but wasn't worried about possible spraying. Anyway, there was no probs. and all was fine.
We went on to another rental from there . They accepted cats and we were there for two years . No worries from the landlord and no worries for the end of the tenancy either.

Hiya
Just a suggestion (and further to my earlier post). There are limits to the amount of bond that a landlord can actually ask for. They are required to lodge the bond with the tenancy tribunal in Porirua so, short of doing something shifty it can be a bit hard to increase the bond beyond the maximum amount.
From memory, and i am too lazy to check it for certain, the bond is a maximum of 4 Weeks bond. I have found that generally landlords ask for 2 weeks bond then two weeks in advance so 4 weeks bond should cover you.
If not, then putting into your tenancy agreement a stipulation that you will arrange a cleaner, or whatever, should do it.
