Hi everyone, be gentle we're new
 

Hi guys,

firstly must say this is a great site with loads of great advice.

Me and Julie have wanted to move to NZ for some time but neither of us qualify under skilled migrant. Life moves on but we are looking at starting a new biz together and thought if we do it why not do it in NZ. Having spoken with Paul Goddard at New Life New Zealand (sure some of you know of him) his team think that employment is possible due to my experience. money isn't a problem would have enough to buy nice house and plenty in the bank.

We have 50,000 questions but if any of you have any general comments on New Life New Zealand (they are the agency) or pointers for either looking for work or buying a business, we'd love to hear from you. We are initially looking at Dunedin, mainly due to the Uni as my son will be studying music.

Be gentle with you? :confused: What do you think we are on here? ;) Welcome to the site, can't offer any advice on Dunedin as I haven't been there (yet). Best of luck with all your plans, and ask away as many questions as you like...

Welcome to this little forum. This lot are a bunch of helpful , friendly nutters but I'm sure they'll be gentle with you newbies........... for now. :sneaky:

Yup ! I remember the Goddards from TV and on forums. They bought a car valet franchise at the beginning of their time in NZ. He then went on to do something with the music industry , I thought. He also worked for the now defunct Kiwi-Ora I believe. So, he has moved on to working for an immigration consultant eh? Ah well ! We all have to earn a crust somehow. :D

I've no views on that immigration consultant or any other for that matter , ther than it is possible to gain PR for NZ without the use of an agency. This can save you loads of $$$. My view would be that you need to do your own homework first. Explore all your options via sites like these and simply reading up on the NZIS site etc. This costs you nothing . Once you know something about entry requirements to NZ , if you still feel that yours is a difficult or special case, then by all means pay a consultant to help you. Make sure they are members of NZAMI. [click the blue link] Look for an agent that maybe has an ex-NZIS officer on its payroll. At least you then know they are very familiar with NZIS policies.

Now then. Down to business with you two.

Can you let us know what your current occupations are please? I note you say you don't qualify under SMC. Is that because there is a lack of formal qualifications or that your skill is not on the long term shortage list?

I see that you are considering using a LTBV - long term business visa - as a route into NZ. I can point you in the direction of more specialist help with that. Are you thinking of a business from scratch or a franchise?

Just read your not supposed to run threads on intro’s so if you want we can continue this on the forum. I’ll try and answer your questions best I can.

Having done a fair bit of research we came to the conclusion that it was going to be difficult whichever route we approached. I was in Financial Services for 21 yrs everything from mortgage adviser through to Inheritance Tax Adviser. Been in management and seen it all. In 2005 I had enough of working 60-70 hours a week and set up my own business with the aim of having a better quality of life with the kids. It is a lot better now and I have never regretted it (apart from the new car every 3 yrs, lol).

I run a property maintenance business dealing mainly with charities. Nothing big, but pays the bills, nights out and hols. Forgot to say that I have always been involved in property as a hobby, renovated 2 and built 2 from scratch, so brought a van and chucked the tools in the back.

Basically I didn’t want to go down the road so far and find out I’ve not read article 3 subsection 2b I) incorrectly and ticked the wrong box. I have spoken to several agencies and just found Paul and the team very helpful & positive, but then I've been in sales all my life!!
