Re: help low iron
afraid can't say that it will depend on the referral Dr. You need to up your iron intake before the next blood test. Broccoli, dried apricots, liver, red meat (we ere told to drink orange when eating red meat as apparently it helps the absorption), spinach, lentils, ricje crispies and cornflakes.

Re: help low iron
So red meat sources of iron are absorbed readily by your body but other sources of iron (from veg) need vitamin C (citrus fruit is the obvious source here) or Malic acid (apples, pears, pumpkin etc) to make the iron available for the body to absorb.
Phytic acid found in bran blocks absorption of iron, so you should avoid eating bran cereals maybe. The good news is that when we are anaemic the body becomes more efficient at absorbing iron from our diet. I would stick to eating raw fruit and avoid the fruit juice drinks as the latter are a combination of sugar and acid and really aren't very good for us. They are great for rotting teeth and assisting in making us fat! |
