Hello NZ forum
Have had EOI selected from pool - seems like ages ago - in mid Nov. Not heard anything back yet. We had 150 points without job offer. Husband is IT project manager and I'm a Spanish/French teacher. We need to sell our house and we're waiting to get our ITA before we put it on the market. Not sure if thats a good idea or not.....
Have sent off hubbys cv to loads of companies but not heard anything back yet. Most have said NO unless you're in NZ, some have said that he needs to be there for interviews. Just a bit unsure of what order to do things in.....HELP.
I can't wait another 9 months if we don't get a job offer for him. I'm thinking he might have to go over for a job search fortnight and I'll have to hold the fort and the babies!

Re: Hello NZ forum
Hi Sarah and welcome to the Forum
OH and I are both in IT. No-one would offer us a job either, some wouldn't even talk to us. So we booked our trip, packed suits and went cap in hand to some specialist IT agencies in Wellington. After 2 interviews we had 2 lovely job offers, came home and applied for a visa (going out in Jan to start work).
Basically they get inundated with inquiries from people overseas and the way they whittle them down to serious people, is to insist you are in NZ for interviews. Once you are there they will love you for making the effort!
I also know of people who did telephone interviews and got offered a job... but I don't know how they managed this.
Send him over for a quick visit and he'll be back with a job offer in no time!
Good luck

Thanks for info. Hubby out at pub drowing his sorrows but will tell him when he gets back! I think there's the possibility of redundancy/management buyout looming so I guess we could use some of those funds for a job seeking trip.
Glad to hear that there may well be light at the end of the tunnel....
Thanks again.

Hi there SaritaBear . Welcome to this little forum.
Have some karma & Happy Posting.
As Izzy & Ian say, it often is the case that employers will simply suggest you contact them once you have arrived in NZ and/or that they want face to face interviews. Not always mind you. I have read of folk that have managed to gain a job offer through phone and video interviews etc.
Those that can afford it, come over on job hunting expeditions. We did this.
There are quite a few who have settled in Wellington on this site. A few of them are IT people. I expect they'll be along in a moment or three.
The Welly IT people have formed a group which organises a monthly meet among other things. Why not contact them or have a read of their site.
It's THE WELLIES

Thanks for all the info....I'm all in favour of sending his truly on a job hunting/recce trip but he's not so keen. Think he'd rather wait till we can all go and then just sort out a job when we get there.....here's to sitting and waiting then!
Hope to see some of you in Wellington when we finally get there - mmmm march 2010 maybe!!!!!!!!
