Hello from another newbie
Hello all. I am Sharon, and we are moving to New Zealand (Bucklands Beach, Auckland) in under 3 weeks time and I am terrified! :scared: My partner has been there since October, working. His dad lives there, so at least we know someone. My kids are aged 8 & 5, and they are enrolled to start their new school in February.
At present, we are in N.Ireland, we have moved loads around the UK, but this move is a bit bigger!
I am dreading the journey, although I am trying to make it as pleasurable as possible for my kids- 3 nights in LA and we are going to Disneyland!!
I can't believe how much I still have got to do, time is running out.
Hoping to get to know a few people on here.

Hi Sharon,
We moved here last year with our three kids, we came out via Disney and had a fab time, although our room was filled with bags, car seats etc.
I wish you all the best on your move and if I were to offer any advice it would be to have a family visit to the dentist before you come cos our kids are now costing us a small fortune in orthodontist and dental checks......mind you they have got wonky teeth!!
Have a safe and pleasant trip,
Alex

We are looking at over $5000- but this is over a period.
she has to have 4 teeth pulled to make room, at a cost of $500-dentist and $500 anaesthetist and of course its $60 per consultation....its almost worth travelling home for!! especially as the other girls appear to have the same problem!! Insurance is not worth it unfortunately. At least if your 12 year old already has braces you will not have the initial costs- I wish we had taken ours before we left the UK.
Hope this helps xx

Welcome Sharon! As an expat in the US, please be careful of the areas you go to in LA - might be worth checking out the Trailer Park or regular USA forum for that. Just ask away.
I've never been to LA but we have a 6-hr stopover there (*yawn*) and I'm not looking forward to it!
Again, welcome to British Expats! Karma coming your way.
