Hello ALL, looking for info if you can help.
Hello my name is Niall and I am from Ireland.
I have just secured a job in a school (I'm a teacher) in Glendowie in Auckland. I start in January and will be in Auckland from late dec/Early Jan. Was wondering where would be a good palce to live? I Am 26, enjoy socialising and will be moving over there with a mate from home. I don't like too long of a commute - Ideally cycling 3 -4 miles to work would be good.
Also I think my salary will be 48,ooo NZD before tax. Any Idea how it will be to live on this? I have no kids or partner to support and not into designer clothes etc.
Any help grately appreciated!!
Thanks in advance,
Niall

Cycling in Auckland will be, erm...stimulating let's say.
As a single on $48K you'll do fine as long as you aren't stuck with a large mortgage and big payments on a car.
The rents around Glendowie will be a bit higher than other areas, but if you are diligent you should find something that will fit your budget. You might also want to look into flat-sharing.

Thanks the post.
Was thinking I might want to live in Central Auckland or Parnell/Newmarket? Is this feasible commute wise? Pricewise? Also where are good(good, relaxed atmosphere and decent nightlife), feasible suburbs for commuting to glendowie?sorry so many questions!
thanks again,
Niall

If you are still keen on cycling and you choose to live in Newmarket or Parnell you might want to consider taking the train to Glen Innes and biking from there to Glendowie.
Good luck with the move.

Thanks for the welcome and the replies. Parnell is sounding good as long as I can get something in my price range (Although at the minute i have no idea what this might be ). What is the story with cycling? is it a pure disaster all together or what??I Currently live in london and cycle about two miles to work and quite enjoy it although traffic can be bad.
Getting quite excited about the move mow,
Niall.
P.S
My job is in Sacred Heart College. Any one know anything about this school? Good? bad?
THANKS AGAIN

Cycling in Auckland will be challenging as there are lots of hills and the roads are often congested. There is also the added bonus of Kiwi drivers (you'll find out about them when you arrive and I'll let you come to your own conclusions).
