health costs

I have been reading about dental charges/GP visits etc., in NZ is it really that expensive for a family to visit the Doctor and prescription charges? do I need a bank loan? is it as worrying as it sounds?

Hi alyj,

I'm from the US so I'm not easily shocked by high medical costs. I find medical care here cheap. For example, last week I needed to visit the doctor for an ear infection. The cost of the visit was NZD$30. I got the prescription for amoxycillan filled at the chemist's across the road and the cost for pills and ear-drops was NZD$6. Cheap, huh.

:)
