Hawkes bay v Melbourne
 

Hi
can anybody tell me how the annual climate of Hawkes bay ..Napier and Hastings in particular, compares to Melbourne generally speaking from personal experience of having lived in both.

I haven't lived in both but do live in Hawkes Bay and did consider Melbourne and being a warmth lover studied the weather stats. There's not a huge amount between them apart from that Melbourne is one or two degrees warmer through the year but does the four seasons in one day thing. In NZ terms Hawkes Bay is one of the warmest areas, in Oz terms Melbourne is one of the coolest but to compare there's not a huge amount in it.

Napier ranges from average low to high of 4.6- 14.1 in July compared with 6-13.9 in Melbourne. In summer the average high to low in January is 14.6- 24.4 in Napier and 14.2- 25.8 in Melbourne. Both are wine producing areas but Melbourne has the (much, much) bigger city with all the good and bad that brings while Napier and Hastings together are still small with all the good and bad that brings.

If you are a die hard city lover chose Melbourne. If you prefer slower paced and like town or rural life, chose Hawkes Bay. If culture, arts and shopping are top priorities, chose Melbourne. If cheaper house prices are a priority, chose Hawkes Bay (the second most affordable housing in NZ compared with Melbourne being some of (if not the) highest in Oz.

Also Melbourne got hit by a tornado, so there shouldn't be anything left there.
