Default Have gifts in container...? pay duty

We have been given gifts of household items..hoover,iron,pots,dishes etc ...... and are in the process of filling out the customs declaration form for the container; on this it asks if it contains any unused items or unused gifts. What I want to know is will we need to pay duty on these gifts? Any help appreciated

you bet,

We bought over a brand new Dyson, (didn't know you could get them here).

MAF - who were going through our stiff like people possessed - thought however - great heaps of dust and bugs and stuff - more money.

Then they see it's all new and still wrapped up - Shit !

Oh well, new goods - hit him for duty!!!

Just unwrap them from their original packaging - if you feel better use the hoover once - simple, then they're not new ...

As AL indicates ALL new stuff attracts a tax so I understand. Thing is to open the item and I would use it once as AL says then that way you will not go red in the face if asked is it BRAND new or used!! Obviouslt too latew once its packed but this advice is for people pre container..or PC.

Think to remember as well is it's not only new stuff that attracts duty. We ended up paying duty on a tractor as well - and that was not way new.

You are just a cash cow and you are going get milked.

Yes is the answer Phyl. I think it's anything over a hundred bucks. $100
If the stuff aint in the container yet , get busy and bin those boxes.

Perhaps wing it and say NO if you think the stuff isn't all neat and shiny new.
