Default hands up who done it with a visitors visa

ive still got loads questions going round and round and would appreciate any words of wisdom from the experienced visitor to migrante people.
1.is it best to take your documents in your hand luggage or to post them?
2.we go in september,my 15 yrold turns 16 in december, will her passport be ok when we apply for pr?as hers will be juvenielle.
3.we havent had any contact with her dad for 12 yr,passport people said thats ok . just fill out the section notes explaining that you dont know his whereabouts so cant contact him. but will new zealand be ok with this.?
4.we think might be better for us to hire camper van and tour for couple weeks to find house, work etc. does anybody know if you can hire one quite near from chch airport? also what paperwork would we need to do this?and how much notice do we have to give company to actually hire the van from?
appreciate any help at all.
cheers eileen

We came on visitors Visa and Other half now has his 12 month work permit and is working fulltime. We had all documents sent on and carried nothing "suspicious" with us at all, just incase we got searched.
Dunno about the campervan...we booked into a motel for 2 weeks and then found a house to rent, do you know where you are going to live? Have you got jobs lined up?

sorry Im not much help

I don't know about doing it with a visitor's visa but I would be pretty certain that Mr Nice Guy will put his hand up to having done it with a visitor

hi stacey,
we are thinking touring around chch area and surroundings?
is it sumner your staying? that looks lovely too.
hubby hasnt got job lined up but we have been told that he shouldnt have to much hassle getting work, hes in construction, mainly outside wall plastering though hes out doing roofing today.
suppose the more experience he gets the better.
thats why we are thinking of a camper van as we cant decide on which area, suppose if we do the touring for couple weeks it might help us decide bit better.
stacey did you just leave your paperwork with a family member, and get them to post them to your rental home?
cheers for the reply

Hi Eileen
We arrived in November on a visitors visa. We carried all our documents in our hand luggage including police checks, full birth certificates and anything your husband might need to get a job. You know you will need medicals also. You must have over six months remaining on your passports from the date you are returning, and you must have a return ticket.
We booked an apartment for 7 days. It depends on how much spare money you've got to go travelling. We intended on travelling around but when we arrived felt it was more important for OH to find a job and to get the kids into school. Your children can't go to school until they have study permits, so again its how quick do you need to go. If there is any problems with medicals this will hold things up. Also your husband must have a job before you can get work permits. Hope this helps.
