Half a million dollars. . . . REALLY !!
Potential new arrivals take note
This is what 279000 pounds will buy you in Auckalnd
(well not really Auckland, one of the poorer areas on the outskirts
anywhere nearer the CBD just gets dearer)
TAKANINI- $509,000 - Realestate.co.nz

My god.
We left Auckland in 2012 and it was bonkers then how much dumps in awful areas were going for.
But half a million to live in a crap house, in a rubbish area 15 miles away from Auckland is insane.

In all seriousness though i wouldn't recommend anyone buy in Auckland as it's buyers are mostly millionaires the same as Sydney and London. Me and my partner are building brand new in rolleston outside Christchurch for $450,000 as there is a serious amount of subdivisions going up around the City, plenty more worth while places to buy than Auckland

I am pretty sure 'travellers' / gypsies and people that live in trailer parks have better facilities.

We use a very good cattery/kennel just up the road. 10 years ago it was a purely rural area. Now the surrounding fields are filled with new housing, each section too small to have much of a garden. Lots of shops and amenities have been built very close by. If you look on Google maps at the busy road around the corner, Airfield Rd. in Takanini, you can see what the area looked like last year. It's become more developed since then. I think the price reflects the fast changing nature of the area, with so much more expensive housing nearby and lots of new shops.
Anyway, the house is very typical of small town/rural New Zealand. The condition is no worse than most. Actually, it's in typical condition for the majority of Auckland housing, but never mind.

I'm loving the 'door' between the kitchen and laundry.

I've seen a few properties on the market like this. Down the road there is brand new housing going up, so this is not intended to compete for first home buyers. It's for investors - for $500,000 you get $300+ a week return via rental. Better than a couple of percent at the bank.

That is what is happening here where we live also. Even a low lying area once considered no good for development is being developed. Paddocks & orchards being turned over to new housing. Yet our infra-structure remains the same.

Sigh. I so wish I could just up and leave Auckland. I really do. Made my bed though...

A real wake up call, scary stuff. I stayed in a 'hotel/motel' on the outskirts a few years ago and it was perhaps the worst I've ever had the misfortune to witness, nothing available closer to the city, no wonder really.
