I am looking forward to some warm weather as feel like I have done an eternal winter, arriving here in march so winter uk winter NZ...not great timing, but role on summer

Once you have a car, drive up dyers Pass road (from Colombo) right to the top of the Port Hills. At the Sign of the Kiwi turn right and drive along the summit road. About 15 min later you come to the best picnic spot, looking one way you have Lyttleton Harbour, the other is out to the Southern Alps, very lovely now with the snow cover.
There is an excellent cafe (called She) with great ginger slice in Governer's Bay (head down the hill on the other side) with lovely views.
I love it up in the Port Hills, to me it is one of the best things about living here.
