Apparently he was told NOT to come. It is his fault, he was going on about 'not wanting to lie'. Its not lying not telling anyone!!

A US expert was on the radio was saying he has done it ALL wrong and he should have gone for anonimity. Another point someone raised is that the poor sod does not have a significant other (unlike most winners) thus he's never REALLY gonna know why they struck up with him. This kind of situation has many, many more negatives than positives in my eyes. Would I want to be him? Not in 26,500,000 million years. He looks like he was a content chap BEFORE the win. I think all that will change once the initial euphoria wears off.

The experts say we all know our place in life especially at his age. He is now catapaulted into the super rich echelons of life (by Nz standards anyway) and I think it will be hard adjusting. As I have said I doubt I could do it ..or get it right. I think it would bring me more problems that I presently have in my life.

It's a mindset. I'd give it a good go given the chance

I know I have tried to win it but to be frank one knows in one's heart it ain't gonna happen..but you feel you want to try, like the moth drawn to the candle flame..never a good result. I would love to win a manageable amount like 1 or 2 million, mainly as we would not need to be reliant on a full time wage. But I don't think I really would like 26 million odd, I fear it would be nothing but a curse for me and my family. But that is just me. I am sure many others would do just fine with it.

If he decides to stay in the community he currently lives in he will already know who his friends are
and it would be impossible to keep it a secret.

Lots of jealousy around I think, I say good luck to the guy, so what if he's not the brightest guy around
what difference does that make? I'm sure he'll have fun not worrying about work, debts and how he's going to pay his bills.
I for one would come out and tell if I won, I'd spend shit loads on everything I've ever wanted and then piss off on my own
travelling around the world on a motorbike which has always been my plan anyway, this would simply mean I could just keep going round and round
My kids would get a big chunk each, my ex would get f**k all and when it ran out (if it ran out) then I'd still be no worse off than I am now

Yeah, agree me too.

Seems alot of criticism from people re: making himself public, yet I'd have thought it would be practically impossible to keep secret in place with population the size of Te Kauwhata, barely over a 1,000.

Good luck to him.

Gosh you win $26m, the least they could have done was splash out on some proper champage for the photoshoot.

I'd happily give it my best shot at living the champagne millionare lifestyle.

The bloke lives in a small town, he already knows who his friends are.

He wasn't just the checkout boy. He was on a management course which requires him to know all aspects of the job, including checkout.

He races stock cars. He enjoys racing stock cars. He can now race without worrying if he can get a set of tyres for the next race in this budget racing class.

You're all a bunch of bloody whinging poms. Spend many an hour on this forum moaning about how poorly paid kiwis are, then when someone gets lucky, can't wait to bloody berate him.

I do believe I will now pretty much stop contributing to this thread.

Chur, and shot!

The criticism comes form those in the know too, not just from ordinairy folk like us BE people. A lotteries winning consultant said today this guy has done it all wrong. I too wish him all the best, as I have said he seems like a great bloke. Does not stop us gossiping about what he has done though eh?

If they are "in the know" how come they are full of criticism yet not one of them has any idea on how he could have kept his privacy in small town NZ.

What he chooses to do is his business and he will live with the effect it has on his future.

He comes cross as a very honest but slightly naive young man

This expert is from the US and has had no interface with the winner. I think the idea of keeping schtum even in a small town is not a hard notion. I know I would be able to do it...keep quiet that is. He is 33 odd and not a child. For me such a win would be on a need to know basis. And you are correct it is his business and none of ours, but that won't stop me or others having a debate on it will it?

seriously, WTF does anyone know about winning the lottery until they've done it.
So what if some geek says its not the done thing, who cares?
There are far to many people out there who always think they know best, these people are f**kwits
with nothing better to do than stick their noses into other peoples business and try to suck the fun out of everything.

If this guy ends up broke again in 5 years, so what, he's a grown up and I'm sure he'll have had a blast
wasting every penny of it. Its really non of our business what he does so why not let him just get on with it

Surely we are allowed to comment on stuff? Isn't that what a forum is all about?? We all have opinions. I don't think anyone has been nasty about this chap and I am sure we all wish him well. Some of us just don't agree with what he has done. Not a big deal really eh?
