It's a Mako I think - deep water species, so not likely to nibble your toes when at the beach. Not really edible either.
We just left it there - I was kind of tempted to put my surfboard in its mouth, and get a classy looking bite mark in it, and BS everybody about how I'd fought it off! There's some biggies around NZ, a couple of years ago at Raglan, a fisherman had a White Pointer out, 5 metres long, they had to use a scaffolding truck to shift it, and it had a 1.2 metre bite radius. It would swallow you whole.......they're well fed on seals etc though, so nothing to really worry about. |

They certainly don't deserve to be tortured like that then left to suffocate. they wouldn't have been targeting Mako's - you can't eat them, and they's have lost their lines and lures to it as well. I recently worked out how to play with the exposure settings on my camera so since then I've been waiting for a clear night to photograph the stars!
These were taken on a 30 second exposure (longest it'll do) and contrast enhanced in Paint Shop Pro. The first is a little bit blurred (I blame the cat) but they give you an inkling of what the sky is like! |
