Governor's Bay

Governor's Bay
We just got back from Hamilton with a bit of time to kill on the way home, so we drove out to Lyttleton (which is more of a dump than I remember) and then drove out round the waterfront. Just round the corner, heading towards Akaroa, there are some gorgeous bays with new housing estates and old established housing - Corsair Bay, Cass Bay and Governor's Bay are just gorgeous. Prices range from about $400K to over a million depending on what you want, but they all have beautiful views and the sea on your doorstep. It's not too far to the Lyttleton Tunnel to reach Christchurch. But if you have the money, you are into beach and boating and don't mind living out of Christchurch and commuting at least half an hour you might like to check out the area.
As we passed through they were filiming Margaret Mahy's "Kaitangata Twist" in Governor's Bay (where she lives), so the local She Chocolat cafe had become the Bay Tearooms (Lol). They must've paid them a lot of dosh to close for a week and be a film set, but what a buzz.
Lovely area. If you are looking around the Canterbury area check it out.
