I have expat shield to watch stuff on bbc iplayer but it annoyingly stutters somewhat at times.

Will having unotelly stop this?

Also, do you pay to watch certain things on ITV? Good stuff seems to be on a rental basis.

Am new to all this as you can tell.

I still download all our TV, everything is on Pirate Bay within a day or so. As I'm typing this a message as just appeared on the bottom of my screen telling me the latest 8 out of 10 cats episode has finished downloading, took about 5 minutes.

If you've bought a TV in the last few years it should have a USB port in the back, I simply copy the files onto my hard drive, plug it in the TV and away we go. No adverts, no streaming issues and I've ended up with a quality TV library.

A few things I've downloaded recently I'd highly recommend:

Uncle (new BBC3 comedy)

Tough Young Teachers (docusoap about new teachers in rough London schools)

Benefits Street (I'm sure you've heard the controversy)

Ross Kemp Extreme World (new series 3)

Outnumbered (new series is surprisingly good)

How have you downloaded them BM please?

BBC iplayer won't let me do that. It just lets me stream ( I sound like I know what I'm on about. I don't)

Wanted to watch Uncle last evening but gave up in the end .

I'm a bit excited by all of this really. If we can get good comedy and drama , it would be so ace.

So much good stuff but I may have to start with Breaking Bad.
We loved BB - have fun!

BEVS, I can download stuff off iplayer using their little download thingy but i agree that streaming off iplayer seems to require faster internet than netflix. I currently use expattelly just cos it was the first one i came to when googling and am now to lazy to swap - I plan to swap though and see if I can find one that makes iplayer streaming buffer less.

Hang on, back up a bit. I have Slingshot Broadband Global mode. I can get BBC but not 4OD - can you really get it? Any idea why I can't?

You have to download the Iplayer Desktop which is easy. In theory you have longer to watch them too, but I've had some playback issues.

Unotelly has no problems with broadband speed because it's a DNS server. Generally far better than a proxy server.
I have watched all of uncle so far with not a single buffering issue.
There is a free program for macs that lets you download direct from iplayer then converts it and sticks it in iTunes. Totally seamless. I used to use pirate bay And kickass torrents for TV, I'm glad I no longer need to to be honest. For many people downloading, converting then sticking on a USB and navigating to the file on the TV is either too difficult or too much hassle. I used to do it but I'm a geek.
Try unotelly, it's free for a week and takes no time or effort to set up, instructions on the site are very clear. If you don't have an apply TV you can still watch on the tablet and both iplayer and 4OD have download capability now.
Netflix is a must for us now. Have watche series one of breaking and this week and never once did it buffer. And that is with the wife surfing and someone playing online on the xbox.

It's pretty simple, download http://www.bittorrent.com/ this bit of software.

Then go to http://pirateproxy.net/ and search for what you want, when you've found it just click on the little magnet next to it. The software you downloaded will start downloading it probably into your downloads folder.

I've tried streaming sites, proxy servers, smartDNS, expatshield, wiring PC to TV, putting BBCiPlayer on my Sony Bravia, paying for Hula, paying for Netflix and many other different ways but I always revert back to downloading my TV.

Plus it costs nowt!!!!!!!!!

Whoa everyone!

Downloading from Pirate Bay is illegal under copyright law in NZ, which can result in the ISP and the downloading IP address owner being penalised.

Just saying like....(looking for Mod hat, found it missing.....)

Better to use a DNS service like Andy has described or I can recommend "unblock-us".

Its real simple to setup and cost peanuts.

If I can further muddy the waters....

If you have a Mac, there is a great program called Get iPlayer Automator which, providing you have a UK proxy (expatshield, Go Trusted VPN which I use), you can download iPlayer and ITV programs - for good.

https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/39...ayer-automator

You can even set it to series link and record. So I've been watching Midsomer Murders, Wanted Down Under, Room 101 and Inside No 9 (League of Gentlemen-type thing). It's also great for my little girl keeping up to date with her favourite CBeebies shows! I don't know if there is a PC equivalent I'm afraid.

pominnz is an unknown quantity at this point
Talking Re: Getting your UK TV fix

I'm using UnoTelly, and it works great with BBC iPlayer, 4OD, Channel 5, netflix and Love Film. A colleague of mine also purchased a Now TV box while he was in the UK, and that's working via UnoTelly too.

I've also configured our Samsung Smart TV to the UK region so we get all the UK on demand apps including the above plus, BBC news and BBC Sport and are currently watching the live BBC coverage of the winter olympics, which is awesome.

Get iPlayer Automator was the program I meant. As I type this it is downloading, Outnumbered, Inside No 9 and Line of Duty. Magic.
At the same time, wife is surfing and the Internet Smart Radio is streaming Radio 2 in the kitchen.
By the time I have cooked dinner I will have an evening worth of TV ready to go on the Apple TV.
Wish I could get my Panasonic so-called smart Tv to think it is in the UK but I'm not sure even then that there is an iPlayer app for it.
