Default Get more sun!

NZ sun can be pretty fierce, but don't avoid it altogether....

In a joint statement by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Cancer Society, New Zealanders are being encouraged to get some sun - but not too much.

Over exposure increases the risk of skin cancer, while not enough sun can cause Vitamin D deficiency because the vitamin is generated by the body through sun exposure.

Included in the list of those at risk of having Vitamin D deficiency due to a lack of sun exposure are South Island residents.

Others include those with naturally very dark skin, sun avoiders, people on photosensitising medications, and those with limited mobility.

you gotta be very careful when you take vitamin D 3. or any vitamin tablets or even omega 3. the thing is you actually don't know how much vitamin D you taking from foods/sun naturally. I thought (most definitely) not taking enough of it but blood tests show Vitamin D & calcium levels ok... (my gp said don't need extra.. ) surprised. and no, I don't eat enough foods as I said I never wear short sleeves through the year but despite ,,,

but blood tests aren't 200 % correct. - not always.

I take D 3 (in case) a few times a week, but only 1/4 tablet each time so its 200~ 250 IU. Not 1000 IU.
