Default Gcse

Hi everyone,
New on here, just looking to apply to nz, one question we can't find the answer to is my teenage son will be moving over just after completing his gcse's, he is thinking an apprenticeship in the construction industry, are gcse's an equivalent of nz exams to allow him to apply into the construction industry and college or will he have to do an extra year at nz school?
Thanks in advance
Regards Reg

The NZ equivalent is NCEA but I think it works more on credits gained over time rather than being final exam biased.

There is a huge push on at the moment to get youngsters into apprenticeships, particularly in the building industry
