GARDENING! A thread about gardens.
How do I find the local frost date for Wairarapa?
Tell me some things about growing melons, has anyone had SUCCESSNESS with this here before? I intend to greenhouse first but the little buggers have a reputation for being difficult to get to ripen in time.
Am I the only one preparing to do this thing this year?

No. OH has finally got around to building some raised beds this year. He has just sown (or should that be sowen) his first seeds of the year.
He's planning to grow watermelons, we grew some a few years back & got two enormous ones. They ripened but of course we are north of Auckland & practically sub-tropical ()!

Two Melons seems to be the way to go.
I remember seeing it mentioned on some TV proramme (so it must be true ) that some research had been done on the procurement of melons from shops. Apparently women tend to buy a melon that is the same size as their breasts.
I don't know how they came to that conclusion & frankly I feel that their research was flawed but I've never been comfortable buying a melon since

FYI it's not the breastfeeding that causes the breast changes, it's the pregnancy that does that. I'd like to reduce mine by 50% so you can have some of mine

It's ok, I don't need any more- I keep mine a bit more filled out by staying chubby. That's why I can't diet; I'd just have envelope flaps left.

My asparagus is growing spears- but isn't this a bit early? Should I cut them back or let it get on with it?
