Default Free internet in motels/hotels

I'm setting off later this week to explore some camp grounds that are for sale around NZ and hope to take lots of photos and upload them as I go so that my family who are staying in the UK can see them and we can discuss them as I travel around.
Does anyone know of any places that have free internet in their bedrooms, or at least cheaper than the $29.90 per day that some places charge. I don't think I'll be able to get it all done quickly enough in a cafe with free wifi, or it'll cost me more in coffees
Any tips for any of the major centres would be welcome as I think I'll be travelling almost the length of the country from Bay of Islands to Dunedin
n.b. that was a comment on the travel involved, not on Dunedin
Thanks, John.

I travel around quite a bit for my work and if there are a few motels in an area, you usually negotiate interent into the cost of the room. Also hostels will tend to have cheap wifi available.

I've stayed in a couple of Bella Vista motels that had free broadband, not sure if thats a 'chain-wide' thing though.
Local libraries are also a good option, our local library has 24hrs of wi-fi for $3 for non-members.

Why don't you just get a mobile T stick and top up when you need to?

Some offer free broadband but its not wireless so I suggest you take your own cable. One hotel I stayed in offered me a broadband room deal but didn't supply the cable and I had to go and purchase one!

Thanks for the replies folks, I'll be getting the T stick that we bought in december back from my sister in law sometime during my stay, but will need whatever I can get before then.
John.
