Wink Food shopping

Hi guys

Been in NZ three weeks now, found a house share, nearly bought a house, got the cars, the kids are in school...now the big question!

Foodtown vs Countdown vs Pak n Save vs ????

where do I do the weekly shop?

Any helpful hints gratefully received
Jo

ps loving Auckland but living in Titirangi- fab place and not far from the city ( unless you leave the house at 7 or 8 am)

When I lived up in West Auckland I did my basic stuff shopping at Pak 'n Save, fruits and veg at Lim Chhour (Cambodian owned Asian greengrocer's that have branches in several Auckland location. Great prices!) and our meats at the Aussie Butcher and fish at the fish shop next to the butcher's.

We tend to do our bulk shop in Pak n Save and go to New World and Countdown for specific items we can't get in Pak n Save...

Pak n Save - we've tried them all and find it the best locally for choice and price in general, although the meat is better from a butchers, but the same applies in the UK.

As the domestic goddess (well as far as shopping goes in our house) buy your meat from a butcher (but avoid the "mad" one which is a franchise in reality and some of their stuff is fowl...hehe), although sausages from New World are OK and all the supermarkets can have decent specials; get your fruit/veges from a specialist shop - you call tell the bestfrom the number of customers they have on a Friday afternoon or other peak times!; bulk buy staples at PakNSave (eg some of the larger cordials are so much better value there than in an ordinary supermarket); Woolworths tends to be more expensive than most New Worlds and an upmarket version of its sister store, CountDown (even when you factor in the loyalty cards OneCard and FlyBuys).
You can internet shop with Woolworths and I am told that you can pay for the delivery charge by saving on your wine purchases that are available online - seems like a good tip from our company accountant no less!!!
