As the parent of a teen this one hit me hard. Why didn't any one call the police?!

I just watched a report about this on BBC news.....so sad for the family, can't believe someone could watch that and not ring the police......according to the reports someone did....3 hours after his death

It's sad, I suppose people didn't actually think it was a real situation, and honestly who's to know how many people were tuned in watching.

they also said on the news he had threatened it before so they didnt necessarily take him seriously this time.

Sad innit?
That's the prob, too many people playing games on the net, makes it hard for anyone to know when someone is actually really doing something, or if it's a publicity stunt, and plenty of people just going along with whatever other people do for their own entertainment.
Got to feel sorry for the parents too, especially that they weren't aware that he was actually suicidal, can't be easy.

How dreadful! I feel for the parents but only to a degree. They didn't know their son was at best a massive attention seeker? Something is wrong here surely?

Parents can really be surprised by a teens suicide attempt. I know parents who have been completely unaware that it was coming. Teens can be really secretive - it's scary truly.

From what I read in the press, he was a diagnosed bi-polar, and took meds for it.
It's often impossible to read people when they're intent on hiding an upcoming suicide attempt, unfortunately.

Maybe. But I know exactly what kind of mood my kids (and step kids) are in the minute I lay eyes on them. I know what they are doing and when they are doing it. My kids get privacy, but they don't get to hide.

It can really be so difficult. I have a good friend - she was constantly around her daughter, yes she knew if she was in a bad mood, etc. She always knew where the kid was, etc.

With no warning at all, the kid made a very serious suicide attempt.

Mother was at work, father was home with her. Each time she went in the bathroom, she took a few more pills, slowly so she wouldn't throw up. And in-between, came out, watched TV, ate dinner, talked to them.

Eventually she went to bed.

Thank god her mother came home from work (she worked a long shift) and happened to check on her.

Never underestimate how sneaky a teenager can be. It's what they do. (not meaning that as any lecture to you personally, I just remember that event so vividly. I had talked to the kid a couple days before, she was happily talking about going to the school dance. Scary)
