Default Fencing for a small dog

I want to get a small dog but I don't have a properly fenced in property. As I don't own the property, I can't get proper permanent fencing put in. I have good fencing down two long sides, but need fencing down the ends which measure up to 5.6m each part of which is paved.

I looked at 'invisible fencing' which is very convenient, but the SPCA don't approve and I was hoping to get a rescue dog.

I am considering this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/pets-animal...-598692542.htm

which looks terrible, but is probably the best option so far. Anyone got any ideas? My DIY skills are pretty basic.

We put our Ringo on a rope, saves a fortune on expensive fencing.

Do you mean something like the Innotek wire and transmitter system? we have that and its not unkind - the dog learns really quickly and the actual shock is not powerful, just makes you jump. The audible warning stops the dog going past the wire and ours are very respectful of it.

As for the SPCA, surely that's better than a dog running away and getting hit by a car

Innotek is a very good product. You can adjust the shock level to your dogs stubborness.

I know. They want a fenced property and they come round and inspect. It may mean that I don't get a dog from them which would be a is a shame. Humane Societies in the US seem ok with them.
