I've only ever tried one Feijoa in my life and I didn't like that. Was thinking that maybe it was over-ripe or something, and that I'd try another one this year...just in case I like it better. But the germolene comment resonates with me , might give them a miss.

I must have a bit of a thing about NZ fruit though...I can't bear tamarillo either, and kiwi fruit are OK I suppose but I wouldn't exactly go out of my way to eat one

I'm actually with you all on the germolene thing - but I loved the smell of that as a kid so maybe that's why I like them!

Oh gawd ! Persimmons We have two trees in our garden.

I tried to get my friend to eat them but she came back and said I was just trying to poison her.

hmm... we've had a couple of really bumper years here in cumbria and have 2 litres of damson gin, a litre of damson vodka and a litre of sloe gin that we're going to have to dispose of before our container gets packed (dodgy looking bottles, previously opened - not good for customs i think?!?) well, that's everyones christmas presents sorted then!!

i guess plums or cherries may do if no damsons?!

Did you neighbour cut the trees back after fruiting Pixie ? They make great hedges that grow quickly.

nope, they didn't they're just ones at the bottom of their garden and they've been there for years - before we planted ours we used to get to go and just pick basket loads from the ground. Ours have only been in for a couple of years and were laden this year and last year.
Just made my first batch of stewed ones for rumble

I thought they must be like olives, which are yuck the first time you have them, until the taste grows on you. However, I found the reverse to be true, the more I try, the less I like them.

Not to be outdone, I have tried to like them and once ruined a perfectly good apple crumble after someone said they were nice mixed together.

Nothing wrong with free fruit ........ lots of our friends, workmates and neighbours offer them and we eat them......
Just like the tomatoes, etc that we give away.

There are damsons around as one of MrsL's workmates sells damson jam which is pretty expensive but quite tasty, if a bit on the thin side.......

When I was cutting lawns we'd sometimes do a rental that was knee deep in grass and often those had lots of fallen fruit on the lawns. To me one lawn absolutely full of Feijoas was a crying shame.......
