Default F1 2014

Turbo time! And just keeping cars running seems to be half the battle. Mercedes engines appear to have an early advantage.

Impressed with McLaren, the team really looks like it's back in it's stride. Unsure about the Ricciardo disqualification, the car looked quick and lasted but was that because Red Bull where cheating?

Such fun at Braun Mercedes or whatever they are called! Nico is such a clever little Weasel, it's brilliant to watch him outplay Hammy in qualifying at Monaco. Don't understand all this "We're still friends, we really are!" stuff though. There just needs to be a "first corner incident" to seal the title at some point doesn't there? Classic season . There has already been some very close calls but its nice to see the team let them go at it.

Further back Vettel must feel a bit bruised by Riccardio.

Ferrari and McLaren are still in serious trouble. Fernando Alonso is a great driver but they just didn't get the turbo engine layout right and have to live with the problem all season thanks to the new rules. McLaren have less of an excuse, how can a big budget team using the same engine as the Mercedes cars be so far behind? Honda must be looking into the terms of that contract (though it would be nice to see a day glow orange McLaren again).

Best performer has been Hulkenburg I think, he has been great for Force India. Worst has to be Maldonado, it's only Venezuelan oil money keeping him racing. His Spanish win at Williams seems so long ago now. He is even keeping Max Chilton off the back of the grid.

The turbo cars are pulling a lot of new interest. BMW are rumoured to be looking at getting back in again, currently they are quietly sending technicians to testing and grand prix for surveillance. Ford may also come back via Cosworth who already half developed an engine project for this season before mothballing the project due to lack of interest (between 2010 and 2014 they lost an F1 team every season, Marussia was their last customer who went to Ferrari this year).

Although this may well become 'a damn good thrashing'.

The Porsche driven by Mark Webber and Hartley (NZ driver) is up to second place courtesy of a 1st place Toyota catching fire . Audi lead (as per usual).

Great news.

Alas not for Webber whose car packed in a couple of hours from the finish.

Susie Wolff will become the first female F1 driver in 22 years when she tests for Williams (who have been a the turn around team this year) at the British GP.

Let’s hope she puts in some good lap times so she can get a full time seat next year . Teams need to realise that half of their potential market isn't following F1 because they have no idols presently racing. Even if it takes time for the first female F1 champion to emerge I’d confidently predict that any F1 team without a female development driver in ten years will be a dinosaur.

Susie did well, just two tenths of a second slower than Williams lead driver.

The only obvious driver move in 2015 so far looks like Kimi going to the job center . One of the main problems for Kimi has been that Alonso has always been one of the most talented drivers working for a team that doesn't deserve him.

Great win by Ricciardo, while it's fun to see ruthless drivers battle it out (like Hammy and Nico, Hammy was such a prick!) it's good to see a nice guy who is enjoying himself winning races.

Nothing more on poor Schumi yet?

wasn't impressed personally myself when they told him to move over and glad he stuck to his guns and not do it. Ricciardo was brilliant, excellent win.

As for Schumacher his wife is selling the private jet and setting up medical facilities at their home. It has been reported that he is able to communicate through blinking his eyes and they hope to have him in a mouth controlled wheelchair in a couple of weeks

So, any opinions on who was to blame or just a racing incident? Personally I thought it was just one of those things that happen and just bad luck that it had the effect it had. No sanctions appear to have been levied either which implies no one was definitely to blame

Lewis seems to be behaving like a spoilt child.

no love lost between them two. Team orders don't help and I'm glad he ignored them on previous race. racing incident I believe so hopefully no penalty

Both drivers approach a medium speed right then left sequence with Nico on the outside line and Hamilton defending:

Nico outbreaks Hamilton allowing him to exploit the extra track space on the outside to make ground even on entry to the corner:

Despite the advantage of being on the racing line by the time they are mid-apex Nico has Hamilton in a position where he will be forced into going wide around the next bend:

However as can be seen here Hamilton does not yield the racing line despite and tries to push Nico into a fast disappearing wedge. Here you can see him hack away at the wheel to get the car back onto line after being pushed a long way wide on exit by Hamilton:

Both cars collide as he does so. Equal fault in my view, they both knew where their cars where relative to each other and neither driver gave an inch. However it was Hamilton that most needed the win.

The only real winner here is Red Bull who would not have thought, after not even completing more than a few laps of testing, they would have a young star running 3rd in the championship after the summer break. Now that's great team work.
