Expensive Flights to New Zealand?

Hopefully going to be visiting ChCh this summer (or NZ winter!) but not sure about the cost of flights? I've been quoted around £1400 return per person. Is this around average or can anyone advise me somewhere I can book for cheaper flights?

Also I am looking for somewhere to star around ChCh area - can anyone reccommend anywhere?

Thanx a lot!
Molly

Ex UK September and return November can be done on Air NZ for £716 inc taxes. It certainly pays to go through the internet sites yourself - and it would seem that whoever quoted you £1400 was making a fortune!

We flew Thai last year (to Auckland) for a low price (£630) which included stopovers in BK but their prices are silly this year - does anyone know why?

As for accomodation - I recommend Homestays if you really want to meet Kiwis. just type homestays New Zealand into Google and you'll find lots!

Trailfinders are worth talking to - especially if you want a stopveer in HK or Singapore.

Just a warning about using ebookers.... we booked flights and accomm for 3 nights in LA through them. The flights were fine but when we got to our hotel in LA they didnt have our booking at all.... we had already paid but had to pay again.... we did email and ring ebookers several times trying to get them to give us our money back but no luck whatsoever.... they wouldnt answer or made some excuse and never rang us back. I had rung them to make sure that the hotel was confirmed and they said yes but obviously the guy just lied. We gave up trying to get our money back in the end.... we live and learn. Would not use them again.

We looked at websites and then just for shits and giggles we went down to Thomas Cook on the high street. They had the best deal that we could find - and we only had to put down a deposit and pay the rest by September. Fabulous!!

It's worth a try.

We flew Air New Zealand via LAX this March, 612 return each, Heathrow to Cch. Great flight, entertainment and food and great times, no jet lag!!! booked with Air NZ direct online and printed own ticket.
Stayed at Central Park Motor Lodge on Riccarton Road. Fully equiped units, heating, serviced daily. Great place, really friendly and dead central in CCh so everything within easy walking distance. Would definitely recommend.

Hope it all goes ok for you :)
