Are you sure the narrator is writing about Texas and not New Zealand? Sounds like he's describing the winter months here

YOU ARE JOKING, it blinkin miserable here at times, low cloud, torrential rain, road closures due to bridges washing away, landslides, people losing their homes due to floods, not being able to get back to family as there is only one road in and out and thats closed, cold and damp houses.

We've reached the positively Caribbean heights of 15 deg here today. At least the washing will dry...

Had to laugh here, so it must be miserable for you. We are on the West coast of Ireland and pears and plums are all growing, although it's been the worst July so far.

We've been more like October than July so far this year! Still on full winter routine with all the livestock even though it's mid summer and no sign of being able to harvest a haylage crop let alone hay. It's going to be a long and expensive winter

For us a move out to NZ would mean going to very frugal living compared to current lifestyle and I'll need to grow much of our own food. The upsides of pretty low chances of employment are that I'll have time to do so and, due to my 20yr gap in growing our own food while I had a career, we'll probably lose weight due to errors in crop care at first!

That doesn't sound good and didn't think it was that bad where you are. Although July has been very bad in Co Galway, still not too bad for growing. Our cherries are growing and can probably be picked by next week.
