I've just bought a house (went unconditional today ) when I searched around for quotes the ranged from $1200 to $1700.
The solicitor I'm working with charges $170 to look over LIM/Title etc prior to buying, if you go through with the purchase that gets added into their total fee of $1300.

We had a fixed price from our solicitor too, $900 for all her work incl GST, plus we paid for the LIM which up here was $245 and we got our own building inspection done $346. But to balance it all up we got $2000 from ANZ when we took our mortgage with them. So we made a profit!
Found the whole experience pretty easy - longest thing was waiting for the LIM from the local council, they took the full 10 days!

LIM's here cost $265 but, pretty much all vendors now are providing an up to date LIM with their pre sale documents, actually all 8 properties I've seriously looked at recently have had a LIM provided.
Also, as J19fmm said most bank will pay a percentage of your legal costs. ANZ have now limited theirs to max of $1000 for anything above 80% finance (and only with evidence of legal costs) but that still pretty much covers the majority of your legal fees so not so bad.

Have sold 7 times in Auckland and on all occasions did it myself.

The web does all the work along with adequate road sign.

Making appointments and seeing prospective buyers can be done by a friend (as based overseas).
