One of our Kiwi friends bought us the Auckland Entertainment Book - it basically is a book full of discount vouchers for cafes, restaurants and activities (for instance buy one get one free). It is a book that charities use to raise money, but we have already managed to have free coffees, one free admission to Kelly Tarltons etc. It lasts for a year and we have found that you can save money using it. There are books for other areas of NZ and other countries.

oooh just to back that up, i have the entertainment book for Wellington and it is fantastic! There are so many vouchers for activities and a range of restaurants from cheap to rather 'spensive!

Lots of places sell them (Les Mills on Taranaki Street, Wellington do...) but you can also get them online. Just google Entertainment Book.

I got given one by my 3 year olds pre-school up in Howick but we decided we wouldnt use it enough to warrant the amount it cost so we gave it back. It did look good but we dont go out much at the moment so not worth us keeping hold of it.
