To emigrate or not to emigrate? Pros and cons please!
 

We're thinking of emigrating to New Zealand from the island of Jersey. I'd appreciate an honest appraisal of the pros and cons of emigrating to New Zealand.

I'm a qualified accountant and my husband is a retail manager, we have a daughter aged one. We have a good life in the UK, but fell in love with NZ when we visited a couple of years ago. My husband has cousins in NZ.

How easy is it to apply for residency? Can anyone recommended a route?

What is the job situation like over there?

You need to fill out an EOI (Expression of Interest) you can do this online at the NZIS site. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/

Being an accountant you'll probably get enough points to qualify without a problem. You'll then be invited to apply for residence - it can happen very quickly.

Job situation is very good- try http://www.seek.co.nz.

They loooveeee English retail managers out here!!!!! Getting a job for hubby not a problem...As a retail manager I can tell ya...the jobs a bit different to what it was in UK ...not as much expected of you!!!!!! Pretty cruisy really! and companies are obviously smaller with less branches. Be nice to your present employers..because companies over here do pick up the phone and check out your references. Seven day trading and late nights all year round are the only down fall ...but you get used to it!!!!!
