I think you would be best to talk to someone - try Air NZ and see what they can do for you 0800 737 000

Re: emergency flights
skyscanner could be useful. think its just luck of the draw. flight centre might be able to get you urgent flights.

Call the airlines direct see if they'll knock some money off the quote

Re: emergency flights
I just went into my local flight centre and they got me one the next day, when my mum was critically ill. I also got partial refund due to bereavement.

Re: emergency flights
Is it for an illness or bereavement, tell the airline if it is and maybe they can help.

Re: emergency flights
Just be mindful on how long you wait over 'news'. That journey is never just a day. It is far more & then there are the effects of that double long haul.
All the very best JustCol & a hug as well. Many of us know how this feels. You so want to get that timing right but really that is just too hard. Going sooner is better for everyone than later.

KAYAK - Cheap Flights, Hotels, Airline Tickets, Cheap Tickets, Cheap Travel Deals - Compare Hundreds of Travel Sites At Once will give you flight times, airlines and prices as well as online agent. Its a bit like skyscanner but I find it much clearer.
Currently showing £1061 Auck to Man return with Ethiad leaving tomorrow.
For car hire we regularly get Atlas coming in as the cheapest in online searches, they have collection at Manchester Airport too.

Even the very next flight wasn't soon enough for me. Go sooner than you think you have to. I kept a UK CC open too for emergencies.
for you.

Re: emergency flights
Thank all for your suggestions and good wishes
Basically I got a call saying mum was seriously ill in hospital and that it had got so bad that staff had suggested getting last rights done
She's had a real tough time with emphysema, osteoporosis and now pneumonia and a fall causing cracked ribs and concussion compounding matters.
Mums a stubborn bugger and swung from good to bad over the next 24 hours. I've been in constant contact with family and have had
the flight booking page constantly open and updating since Sunday morning. She seems to have stabilized overnight so at the moment
I've decided to sit tight and wait but am constantly aware of the 2 day delay should I need to go, its a very hard decision to make
The hardest thing has been having to call my boys in the UK to let them know their Grandma's so seriously ill without panicking them
sometimes I forget they're both grown men now and it was they who ended up comforting me.
Once again, thank you for your responses and kind words
