Default Electricians in NZ

Hi all, hoping for some answers from you lot already living the dream!! We are hoping to move over in the summer (ours that is) and live in North Shore. I have a job already and OH is a sparky. He is going to do all the stuff you need to do over there so he can be available for the school runs for a while (he thinks he's going to play golf everyday!!) The thing is, there was a radio talk show on the other night here which was saying that the economic downturn has hit all parts of the construction industry which will obviously make it harder for him to get work. It also stated that there are companies that are laying off kiwi's and giving the jobs to Brits. This is leading to a lot of bad feeling towards Brits (understandably I suppose). Does anyone have any idea what a) the job situation is like in Auckland area for sparkies and b) does anyone have any idea if the talk show was right and there is bad feeling? I just know he would not handle that situation very well and would end up having a lot of arguments Thanks, Bevissa
