We're with Genesis but a guy from Mercury is calling around this evening to discuss changing to them - they tell me they're cheaper so we'll see. There's an online comparison of companies on the consumer.org website so that might be worth a look.

Batty, the website you have suggested, is that a NZ website only, not sure I have the right one.

We're using Contact for electricity and gas. We get a discount because we use dual fuel. They have something called smoothpay which means you pay the same amount every month which evens out the peaks and troughs of the fuel we use across the year. British Gas had the same thing in the UK.

We've found them to be good up to now.

This is one of the attractions of Mercury for us and the other is that they supply gas as well which Genesis doesn't.

Hi all,
we've been using Genesis since we came here - all good nor problems till recently.

We had a letter from them saying, basically, we'd not used enough power and they were changing our plan to a more expensive one !

I range them and whilst they were very nice they were not being moved. In fact the bloke at Genesis suggested that web site!

Thats the best advice! Find the cheapest for your situation.

Beaware though that being a new customer with no prior credit history in a Rental House then there is a 99% chance you will be required to pay a bond to the electricity company.
