Hi,
How many sightings of the Great White Shark(GWS) have there been in NZ or more to the point............How many attacks.
Love the sea but in the back of my mind always is DUH DUH DUH DUN
"going to need a bigger boat"

When we went fishing half a mile out from Auckland city centre last year our boat hooked a vicious looking hammerhead shark.
Unfortunatley it fell off the hook as it was being 'hauled-in'.
As it was only about 22 inches long I suspect a nasty nibble would have been as bad as it got had it attacked you

New Zealand Great White shark A proven man-eater with a preference for cooler areas, this shark is present throughout our waters often entering shallow water. Any animal life if suitable size is taken, including very large fishes and dead domestic animals. With recovering seal populations, increasing numbers of white shark sightings are reported each year. Its colour is variable, usually shades of grey, blue and brown with a tendency to dirty white in larger examples. The stout form and large, coarsely serrated triangular teeth are quite distinctive features. Great white and white pointer are widely used alternative names. These sharks are seldom targeted by New Zealand anglers

yep, they're there. Seen a few when on Boyfriend's uncle's boat just off Tauranga - and bigguns too. At least 3 metres long and over. No joke.
