any chance of getting planning permission to build like this in NZ...

hehe....I wish!....actualy, because of school zoning we pretty much have to live in Chch city centre if I want my leaching (3) kids to go to Chch Boy & Girls High School. So we need a weekend project if we can buy a few acres in the country....

It is perfectly possible to build an eco-friendly low impact house here. You need to follow the building code and comply. It's not a cheap solution to a house but it is environmentallly friendly.
