Even the Omicron variant can he dangerous to the immunologically compromised and elderly. There will be hospitalisations and deaths in New Zealand but that has been inevitable for some time now one way or another.

Still better while the weather is warm than in winter.

still not wore a face mask all winter and belive it or not I'm still alive.
Isolation is getting scrapped in UK altogether and it's getting treated like a common cold (flu) virus as soon as possible.
Yep, had it. Was so mild I have had worse common colds. Had mild symptoms for 2 days and then felt great. Shortly afterwards I had to get double jabbed to travel overseas. So now I have had Covid 3 times and been jabbed twice.

Or insanity. Plenty of 'no-life' introverts that enjoy a good lock down to stay inside on their computers though.

Everyone knows your stance on this and no one is arguing, so why so aggressive.

I'm jabbed and think it's way beyond time we opened up again but I get some people don't agree and that's cool. Each to their own eh !!

Just a shame about those rotten stats. More covid deaths (438) on the 18th Jan 2022, in the UK, than on any day since February 2021.

"just a cold though..."

What is the situation with regard NZ citizens travelling back to NZ.?
There is a NZ journalist (think she is a citizen) saying she cannot return to NZ because she cannot get into this managed isolation and quarantine process. She has supposedly been in Afghanistan, then returned to Qatar, then went to her partner's home in Belgium and has just had permission from the Taliban to return to Afghanistan because NZ has refused her entry !

However, this website

https://www.miq.govt.nz/travel-to-ne...aland-in-2022/

states:

Step 2 - Eligible travellers from other countries (except Very High Risk countries)

This step has been delayed until the end of February 2022. Fully vaccinated New Zealand citizens and other eligible travellers under our current border settings can travel to New Zealand from anywhere apart from Very High-Risk countries and undertake self-isolation (they are not required to stay in managed isolation and quarantine). Travellers will be required to meet other health requirements prior to travel (such as provide a negative pre-departure test).

Is she just creating a situation for publicity?

Presumably she doesn't want to wait till the end of February, especially as shes pregnant. And theres no guarantee that it won't be delayed again - as in Australia it seems there are frequent goal-post moves.

Reopening date being decided today apparently. Then there will be an announcement subsequently and that will probably outline the date for another announcement where they will announce the date for reopening.

At this point every country has Omicron so the continued restrictions aren't really preventing spread. A traveller who has been PCR tested is probably safer than the average Joe on the street.

The Australian PM indicated they'd be fully reopening soon to tourism (his exact words where along the lines of "well before Easter".)

No she's not.
Everyone has to go into an MIQ facility

I don't know the criteria for allocating spaces but if you're a wiggle you can get one without much trouble. It seems being a DJ gets you in fairly sharpish too. However it seems having a terminal illness, requiring specialist medical treatment, trying to visit dying relatives or attend their funerals will all see you pushed to the back of the que.
