When the washing machine kicks into spin cycle I twitch thinking it's an earthquake.

Re: Earthquake....again!
It was a bit poo around 4pm NZ time also wasn't it.
Big hugs all round to those feeling it more than us.
Boopy - I used the term 'Sea Legs' to a pal of mine who is also on the Pacific Rim to describe how it it . Not the 'feel' all the time but how it is. She has a great quake kit and is prepared .
Me and him are not in direct firing line , so to speak, but it is moment on moment alarming .
At this rate we'll all need a BE huddle zone.
Let's meet up at Charismatic's

Re: Earthquake....again!
Good morning everyone! Big shake last night 5.8, great when you live 20kms from the epicenter.
Hope everyone's nerves are OK. Our kids are pretty amazing, only one of them woke up and went straight back to sleep, after saying her bed was wobbling!
Rumours are starting about some wineries have major losses due to tank collapses.

Felt the late evening one and the 4 a.m. woke me up but I wasn't sure what it was that had woken me as the cat sometimes has a poodle around at that time.

Very interesting question time with a GNS scientist.
Something to look forward to then.
Not.

Bill Fry: The controversy is to a large extent, due to the variability of input models used in earthquake simulations. When the Alpine Fault does produce an earthquake, it could do so in a number of ways (e.g. south to north or north to south).... The most likely scenario is that the duration of the shaking will be much longer than that experienced during the September 2010 or February 2011 earthquakes.
