DVD'S, CD'S, MOBILE PHONES
Just a quickie............We were not thinking of taking a lot of equipement, furniture etc to New Zealand. So the obvious question is, do British DVD's, CD's, and Mobile Phones work on New Zealand equipement/players etc? Or do we need to ditchthem /car boot them here?

Yes, they'll work fine. Most DVD players are multi-region. Your mobile will need a sim card for New Zealand service and you may need a plug adapter for the battery charger.

Just in addition to the above - make sure your phone is unlocked. You can do it online but because I am a lazy bint I recommend just going to a phone shop and paying your £20 and getting it unlocked.
Regarding your phone - While entry level phones of each brand are pretty much the same price in both the UK and NZ (eg a cheap nokia being £25 or $70) the selection itself isn't great. You know how sometimes you will find a phone and then find one of the same brand and style but with one extra function (like a torch or something). Well, that range isn't as high. So if you are someone who always wants the top of the line phone perhaps bring your UK one or buy one there.
Otherwise, yep, just get it unlocked.
CDs and DVDs are fine. Cd's no problem whatsoever. DVD players sold in NZ generally come with a little insert which tells you how to make your DVD player multiregion. Often the cheaper DVD players themselves aren't technically multiregion but they come with that piece of paper that shows you how to make it so. No problems.
The only place you might have a problem is playing the DVD on a NZ computer. Apparently they are less likely to be multiregion but i have no idea if that is true or not???
