I know some DVD players don't play NZ dvds, we have an all singing, all dancing dvd recorder which won't touch them! But we also have a really cheap one we got from Asda for about £15 which plays anything! Only problem is the remote is about the size of a credit card and keeps disappearing down the side of the sofa!
Just thought it might be worth knowing for anyone coming over.

most DVD players can be unlocked for free - try google search if you haven't already? done two of ours just getting code off internet and using remote to put in code to unlock... google search something like 'make, model, free unlock code'

Hill & Stewart have a real cheapie that's a front loader and takes USB sticks at the moment about $45, cheap as chips!
