Don't like living in Nelson
#31

True enough. July 2022.
I was on the phone and couldn't be bothered to write "Te whatu ora - Weaving Wellness Nelson Marlborough" , and then explain that it's a DHB by any other name.

IMO I think New Zealand is over marketed as this amazing beautiful country far better than Britain. But do you know what, it’s not. Britain is amazing, from the New Forest and Dorset, down to Devon and Cornwall, such beautiful countries. Wales has some amazing coast line and mountains. The Lake District is really special place. Then Scotland with their islands, mountains, beautiful coast line and lochs. And that’s not even mentioning places like the Cotswolds, Yorkshire Dales, Peak District.
Don’t get me wrong we came to live in NZ after a fabulous holiday in NZ but accepting a job in Timaru meant we were stuck in such a drab area. NZ is a soulless place in areas, nothing happens. I accept we would have probably enjoyed living in NZ far more if based somewhere close to Auckland. But IMO for the original poster I think you know NZ is not the place you wish to be. I bet you’d feel happier living in Australia.

It may be that a return to Oz somewhere might suit, in particular with a thought for pension age. I know a couple that started in the UK and located to Waiheki island ( Auckland) , leaving there because it was too 'party'. Then came down to Nelson but found it 'dull' . Had a stint back on the UK SW coast and found it too 'busy' so are now settled in Tassy.

Have a look at Whangarei. We have beautiful beaches, it's a couple of hours from Auckland and property prices are still pretty much affordable. It never gets very cold, yes we had a cyclone but in the 7 or so years we've been living here the weather hasn't been too bad. Drive up and explore for a week or so and see if its something you'd like.
