Dog friendly rental problems?

Yeh and the name tag! I still have them too in case of emergency! The dogs jingle!
The mirochipping is pretty new here - and the one we have in the pooch that we took over from the Uk didnt actually get registered here till 5 months ago. You need to reregister them with the Australasian microchip people. Our vet gave us the forms.

no problem! I'll try to think of anything else dog related!
leads and poo bags! the all important accessories
oh and also try not to worry too much about them travelling - I was worried sick - and he was fine, totally. Delighted to see us but clean and happy. He had a day ish of jet lag where he wanted to get up at about 4am to play, and some really sound sleeping.

http://www.aar.org.au/ are the people you need to register your microchips with in NZ. Took me nearly 2 years to find this info!
Defo have poobags on board every time you're out with your dogs because if the ACO is having a shitty day, they can give you a fine for not having one with you
It is a little more restrictive here if you want to keep dogs, but don't let it put you off bringing them.

We rented through Eves in Tauranga. If you ask really nicely they will usually check with the owners of the property but try to meet the agents first by going into the office and let them see who they are dealing with if you can.

As a new puppy owner (yes having fun dog chases cat over to fish pond, cat has quick swipe at fish, dog gets told off cat gets told off fish lie dead in pond!!! ) Its all great!!!
Did you know that you can get a Dog owners licence at the council, you have to take a test to show you are a responsible owner then you get a reduced yearly registration fee

Don't know if you've seen any of the recent news here about the police seizing all sorts of illegal dogs after another child was killed on New Years Eve?
All sounds much more controlled there. Sadly still no joy with the rental, wouldn't agree to a 12 month lease so haven't heard back?
On the plus side have found a buyer for the pony!

You'll find that the reason it is more controlled here is because a 7yo called Carolina Anderson was mauled by a dog in January 2003 and this brought about the Dog Control Amendment Act which came into force later that year.

Dogs are banned from just about everywhere except on lead. Bit of a knee jerk reaction, but the amount of dog attacks has declined according to the latest government survey, so I don't see it relaxing any time soon.

Re: Dog friendly rental problems?
We've managed to have 2 dog friendly rentals since being here. 1st was a bach and 2nd was through 1st National Real Estate. In both cases the houses weren't advertised as able to accommodate dogs but we negotiated a special 'dog bond' - ie a larger deposit to cover additional cleaning costs etc at the end of the tenancy if required.

If desperate, I know of a lady her who does short term rentals and allows dogs..... but drawback is it's in Cambridge. tauranga would be 1 1/2 away for you over the Kaimais. If you get stuck I'll give you her number.
