No cheque book here either, I use my cards and also lift cash out, I always need it for parking or for Lucy.

had to get one as needed to pay for a hall hire and they only took cash of cheque for the $100 deposit

I paid a parking fine, in fact, two parking fines by cheque a few weeks ago. Why two ? I got a parking ticket for being parked after the allocated time I'd paid for. OK, fair play.

The other ticket was for being in the marked parking bay after 30 minutes had gone by from the end of the paid for parking period. Which in my case was actually 19 minutes. So I disputed the second ticket. The local authority in question e-mailed me to tell me they were right. I couldn't be bothered to keep arguing so I paid the parking fines as each ticket was only $12 each.

The bank charged me $6 to process the cheque.

My husband occasionally uses his cheque book.

My deposit slip has been requested by the payroll department when I've had a stint of paid employment so they've got the details of where my salary should go.

However

My OH sometimes gets paid with cheques, mainly from older/elderly clients. We weren't even offered cheque books when we opened our accounts.

Here's a funny story about cheque books. Today I went to my bank with my old cheque book. I have only written 9 cheques since 2007. I asked if they could destroy it for me and unassociate it from my account. They agreed and said they would 'buy' it back off me and sure enough they put $2.50 into my account!!!

The duty on cheques ceases on 1st July 2014. If you take your chequebook into the bank that issued it you will get the duty back.

They won't do this past 1st July 2014. You will get a new chequebook that does not have the cheque duty required.

You're welcome. I read it in the Dominion Post yesterday but could not find the article online to link it to this chat thread.
