Post Documents to take to NZ

Hi Everyone,

Moving to New Zealand, Christchurch next month!

Just writing a last minute list of documents to bring with me for work and living purposes etc

I currently have:
Passports
Birth Certificate
Driving licence
Qualification certificates
CV
References - professional
Bank statement (for visa)

Any ideas if I'm missing anything?

Thanks!

we didn't have to show anything for car insurance.

If you are coming over on a visitors visa I would strongly advise aganist bringing paperwork that makes it look like you will be looking to stay.

any documents you may need I would give to a trusted family member/friend to have ready to mail to you if you need to obtain a visa. I would also save copies of them to somewhere like Dropbox so you can access them any time and where from any PC.

Obviously if you have already obtained a visa just bring everything, but again I would suggest copying them on to Dropbox or similar

I brought a paper summary of my doctors med notes, some prescription meds and a doctors note to cover them.

I wouldn't bother with the professional references either, they're not really worth the paper they're written on and nobody here will want to see them. Most places and even agencies will insist on talking to your line manager.

Hi - I was advised to take a few copies of your passport/visa as well - sorry if that's obvious!

Good luck - we'll be about 10 days behind you - scary and exciting time ahead!

Proof of NMC registration might be useful

If it's not too much bother I would stick your recent references (e.g last 5 years) in with your paper work. I have used them when writing CV's and good ones come in quite useful. You never know. Prospective employers will also follow up your referees, but put them in anyway.

Bar your passports, put everything on a computer or one of those isb disks

If you then need things printed out,

Why do you need a bank statement for visa??? Strange

Oh and what's your CV like by the way? If it's formatted for English employers, don't even bother bringing it over as it'll go straight into the dustbin/recycle folder. You'll need to revamp that to be Kiwi friendly, register on newkiwis.co.nz as they can format a Kiwi style cv for you. That's what got me the job over here

some visa's require you to prove you have enough money to live on for a certain time and also enough money to buy travel tickets out of the country when the visa is up

Mrs. Fychan - I need a lot of that for my nursing registration and I'm not sure about jobs over in NZ but we need 2 forms of identification. Is this the same? but I understand what you mean.

Yes that's correct about the visa to show enough to cover living costs for the time in NZ and the amount to cover travel home.
I have only got the professional references for the nursing council not sure about jobs have only signed up with one agency. My CV has been accepted by them with no comments but I did use the thread on here for advice.

Thanks pinksar we fly Sept 10th from Newcastle - Getting very close!

not sure if this applies to my comment about not bringing lots of documentation on a visitors visa but if it does you may well get a jobs worth at immigration who may not accept that you are "just here for a holiday" and refuse you entry, wchi they are well within their rights to do if you are on a visitors visa and then intend to look for work

Is this not something you will sort before you go? Do you not need to? You can always get copies certified by a Notary so you can take the originals with you while your registration takes place in the background. Just an idea.
