Not for us. Eldest in allergic. So without wishing to worry anyone, there are always 1-2 children in every 100 who are allergic to it (wise pharmacist told me - same for phenergan fyi) and for which it has the totally opposite effect - ie grumpily wide awake. Worse than not taking it to be honest, plus the mint flavour was so strong she coughed for almost an hour too.

We did the flight au naturalle and I would recommend that to anyone going with kids. They'll be fine. Did have a mini water spray and some arnica pills which are meant to help. Oh and homeopathic jet lag pills. Along with food and lots to do obviously, which may only be a safety precaution. Anyone boarding a long flight with young children and only 2 kiddie books and a teddy is in for a well deserved tough ride in my opinion. (We had one of these in front of us last time and I was so shocked that the mother couldn't understand why her son was so out of control. Errr, he was bored silly. But we had trains, plastic bugs, Noddy mag etc which we dutifully passed over to keep the peace. )

Very young children eventually sleep when they're tired enough. Our 5 year old did stay awake for most of the 41 hour journey back to the UK, which isn't good, but she was as good as gold so we didn't worry. We were so proud of their inflight behaviour.

Anyhow, typing all of this has made me realise I am jealous as hell. Would love to fly the nest. Sun is shining and we're off to see Peter Pan on Ice today though, so I'm a happy bunny.

I had to laugh when I read what Pixie said because I'd just thought the same - I can imagine how you feel - it's such a lovely feeling I won't say enjoy the trip because I think it's just something to get through 100,000 Kms an hour wouldn't be fast enough Oh good luck - I'm really looking forward to hearing your first impressions. How long has your hubby been away? Mine was 13 years and I settled more quickly than he did - their expectations are so much greater than ours I think If you'd like to meet up drop me a pm and we could arrange something Good luck xxxx

Depending on the age of the kids little surprises wrapped up go down well to dish out when required - although after the first 2 or 3 surprises our older 2 got onto it and started asking for more - ungrateful buggers! If they are older iPod and Nintendo DS are great - and bribery with sweeties (or lollies as you will have to start calling them) goes down well. Seriously our kids were great without any medication - hope all goes well for you!!!
