Lightbulb Do Californians have immigration advantages?

I just read in Travel + Leisure (September 2005) that Helen Clark aggressively promoted New Zealand to Californians as a place to live permanently.

Was that purely a marketing effort, or do California residents have an advantage in the application process?

There is no special immigration visa for Californians.

All I can think of is the fact that the US is a 'comparable labour market' as far as eligibility for skilled migration is concerned.

Afraid thats just Helen Clarke being Helen Clarke & definately more of a marketing effort to attract people to NZ. Shes big on this tourism kick right now so maybe she just got carried away & didnt check her speach before she made it huh?
