Diesel mechanic

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone could give any advice on what it's like to work as a diesel mechanic out in Auckland in comparison to the UK? Want info on working hours, work ethic and just generally what it's like.

Also, as this is currently on the LTSSL, how likely is it that it will still be on the list in 6 months time?

Have been over here coming up 9 yrs, all on the spanners. Diesel mech here refers to heavy trucks, plant etc- is that the same in UK. I did my time on plant, but since leaving the Army yrs ago I have done cars, and still do. I have no experience at all of Auckland, but may be able to help with other specifics if you want to fire away.

Thanks for your reply Lee. My husband was in the army too, working on tanks. In the UK, he works on buses, but will probably transition into trucks etc in NZ.

We were just wondering on what type of shift patterns are involved really, and whether it's a nice industry to work in over there. You obviously enjoy it if you've been there that long :)
