Did I hear
Cicadas on the walk from school this morning.?
Tui's are already up singing in the trees and daffodils on the hillside. Lovely bright day today to after the hail and thunder of the last couple of days

Re: Did I hear
I think they're crickets. I made the same guess when I first arrived. Cicadas come out much later.
Nice to hear the crickets though.

Re: Did I hear
I just went outside and had a good listen adnI can't hear any. we did have a big cricket in our garage the week before last. Thought it was a big spider and went to erm... 'put a jar over it to take it outside' when it jumped about 2 feet away, and then 2 feet again. Got the shock of my life. I love this website in case you haven't discovered it yet http://www.landcareresearch.co.nz/re...at-is-this-bug So good for helping my identify all the bugs and beasties round here.

Re: Did I hear
thanks for the link, shall bookmark that one.
not being a country lass no idea what most things sound like, except the Tui's and that only because I can see them, so I shall take it that it was crickets.

Re: Did I hear
That web page helped me identify the 2 different types of cockroaches we have had in the house, the cricket and the type of wasps that built nest in the plant on the patio. I'm not much of a country girl so this past year has been quite the learning curve
