Interesting little story on interest.co.nz about the changing nature of population age in New Zealand.

Basically the only major regions forecast not to double their age 65+ population are Auckland and Christchurch:


It's an interesting approach we've seen to Auckland. It's the hub of New Zealand’s economic dynamism right now but suffers from a range of problems from urban planning issues to very poor affordability. Forced into a choice between taking pressure off Auckland by decentralising industry or redeveloping the city most indicate the latter is the governments flavour of the week.

However can New Zealand survive with this model given the social and economic pressures that putting all eggs in one basket will apply?
